Although I am a staff member at FBCSmyrna, the words, thoughts, and stories in this blog are mine and mine alone, not that of the church.

Fun Day in Nashville

March 3rd, 2008 by Melanie

Tony and I have two dear friends who are soon moving away to be a part of a new church plant. Because we only have a short time left with them, we decided to “experience Nashville” a little better this weekend. We visited the Frist Center to see the Monet to Dali exhibit.  I’ve been trying to get Tony to go for a while now, but it just took the interest of some other people to get him motivated.  As we entered the gallery, Tony asked, “So… why do people come to these things, anyway?  What do they get out of looking at this stuff?”  So, we had an educational tour of some old and current art.  As we went through and the four of us discussed our favorites and those we didn’t quite understand, I think the “point” of the experience began to grow on Tony.  We talked about the talent we wished we had, the emotions the pieces arose within us, and tried to figure out what in the world some of these guys must of been thinking when their creativity was flowing.  We moved from the Frist to visit Union Station and walk around that historic point of downtown, but we dared not interrupt the wedding that was happening in the main foyer.  We had dinner at Amerigo (not exclusive to Nashville, I know, but one of my favorites) and then went to a late movie at Green Hills (I love driving through West Nashville and think it would be a neat place to live).  We saw “Fool’s Gold.”  Not impressed.  It was a little slow to get started and wasn’t quite as funny as I had hoped, but as another friend quoted… “Once you’ve seen one Matthew McConaughey movie, you’ve seen them all.”  I was happy to have seen it, but wished I would have waited for the DVD.

I enjoyed my city, and enjoyed my friends, and can’t wait until next time.
